I've tried it. Very nice wine, dense without being heavy, velvety stuff with a refined, elegant feel to it full of blackcherry, blackberry fruit all topped with distinct soil tones. It's a very nice wine, in effect a Cerasuolo riserva. The price is ambitious.

Ambitious, that's a delightful way of saying it's overpriced.
 
Tried the Grotte and it was a nice silky elegant wine. For my tastes I think I prefer the basic bottling which is typically far more alive and food friendly. I don't get the heavy spoofy bottle and the $80 price tag.
 
I spotted the 2008 Occhipinti Grotte Alte on a list in my neighborhood marked up less than 40% from the retail price, so I felt compelled to order a bottle. Density without heaviness, as Greg said above. It seems poised for some evolution in bottle. Chelsea and I rather liked it, but it was still disappointing to see our check at the end and realize that even with the great relative price of this bottle, 70% of our bill was attributable to a blend of Frappato and Nero d'Avola from Sicily.
