2006 Richard Leroy Anjou Le Clos des Rouliers 12.5%

2007 Richard Leroy Anjou Le Clos des Rouliers 12.5%
Yummy through and through, though perhaps a trifle more structured and serious than the 06. Beautiful chenin white flowers & minerality, no hint of oxidativeness, good density, fine acidity, no sense of wood. What more could a guy want, other than an organically haphazard urban grid? Well, yes, there's that.

Snort.

That 'stultifying orthogonality' means that you always know which way to go to get to your destination. Twisty streets that change name every 50 m are no fun to navigate.

I can't say more...
Now it's time to taste the top gun bottles of 08 (R & M).
About the differences beetwen Rouliers and Montbenault, it's not a question of vine's age but of terroir.

The Rouliers was extremely dry/sour-tasting for the first hour when we had it; can acidity like that simulate the taste of oxidation?

Believe not. Bummer, only have Rouliers, have to procure some Montbenault.

Considering your peripatetic lifestyle, why don't you come through the D.C. area? Then you could swing by the Weygandt outlet store on your way to an off-line at Lavendou. Though I think Tim only has the 09 Montbenault now, which I haven't tried, but Kissack praises.

The wines are less marked than they used to be by oxidation and by wood, though I'm sure pab will correct me.

Maybe Leroy reduced their acreage. :)

Not to shill but...

Yeah only '09 Montbenault but we do have a small amount of '08 Rouliers

Just had the '08 version of this wine along with La Reine from Julien Labet from the same vintage.

2 great wines with fabulous "drinkability". The kind of wine you want in 1 liter bottle for 2.

Nice

That's terrible news. The only thing preventing me from opening my single bottle of 08 Rouliers was the belief that it wasn't ready. Don't know Labet, will seek.

Last night a bottle of the 2007 Noels de Montbenault was beauteous. Very light condimental oxidativeness, jasmine, graphite, attractive minerality, ideal body and texture, very cheninesque. Great balance, no wood flavor, alcohol just right. Faint caramel in the rear guard sweetness was my only double take. But what I loved the most was a light bitterness in the farewell, a satisfying happy ending, not sudsy or manipulative.
