NYT article mentions De Moor

I was smitten by the 08 Chitry, despite opening it too young, and bought some magnums of the 09 from Chambers, god bless 'em - the only retailer with wit enough to carry such things. (with the possible exception of Massale - is it correct to call Massale a retailer?).

I read they are making some regional-classification red now, too, in small quantities.

Interesting...now 127+ viewings without any comment about the following statement:

Mr. de Moor is an artist who illustrates the labels on his bottles, and his approach to winemaking is iconoclastic. At the moment, he is in a dispute with the appellation authorities over the varietal composition of Chablis

What? No admonishment on the use of "varietal"??

Nah. Peter Creasey, "varietal" is an adjective and is used correctly, whence the general calm.

Compare: "the varietal composition of Chablis" vs. "the varieties in Chablis." One is an adjective, one is a noun.

Discuss.

Sharon, Okay, thanks! I hadn't realized the distinction applied here.

I often see it defined in other ways elsewhere.

Fuck that. As long as my M&M bowl has all those bland brown ones picked out, I'm cool.
