NWR: Does anybody drink wine?

patchouli up the wazoo.

I like Allemand as much as anyone, but that's a visual impression I wasn't quite anticipating

yes, I'm struggling whether this was Brett or some other defect? All I know is that I want to smell neither patchouli or wazoo in my Allemand, thanks very much.

Naw, just been drinking listeria-infested raw milk while looking through college catalogs that charge an arm and a leg.

two really nice bottles recently are 2010 Broc Cuvee 12.5 and Souhaut 2010 "Syrah". The Souhaut is really nice and probably good for a decent rest - lots of non-froot Northern Rhone character. Broc is more of a drink now wine, I believe. 2010 Ganevat "Enfant Terrible" was very rough the first day, much better the second.

2009 Brun L'Ancien 'Le Buissy'. Prestige cuvée, woo hoo!

2010 Clos de l'Èlu Esperance. Pineau d'Aunis, pimped.

2005 Gilles Berlioz Chignin-Bergeron. Hitting its stride.

NWR: Does anybody drink wine? What's haunting you?
Haunting is a bit strong. If you'll settle for recent wines that persist in my mind:

2003 Ch. Coufran Haut Medoc - pleasant moderate farm hearth brett overlaying ripe maturing jammy Cab fruit with touches of cedar; medium-full body, slightly smoky-hearthy maturing fruit, decent length, slightly Pomerolish (due to high % Merlot?). Good slightly rustic mature Bordeaux from a much dissed vintage.

Corton les Renardes 2009, Ch. De Corton-Andre' - Young, dense and complex, medium-full body, vigorous with earthy-gamey notes and dark cherry-berry woodsy fruit, long, significant cherry-pit tannins, wow!

Chablis Valmur 2008, Louis Moreau - the full Monty for Chablis; mineral, stones, slightly smoky developing nose; austere but grippy palate with good body and very long finish.

St. Veran En Faux 2010 Joseph Burrier (Ch. De Beauregard) - A complex tapestry of disparate flavors: oak, honeyed ripe appley fruit, yet vigorous with excellent acidity and long dry saline finish. From a single vineyard with shallow limestone soils on a ridge top.

Coro Mendocino 2004, Eaglepoint Ranch - nice aroma of blackberry fruit with complex overtones of syrah, floral and tarragon; medium body with some density, tasty plum-berry fruit with savory herbal tone, excellent balance of acid, fruit and dry but not intrusive tannins, plus a mild shot of (American?) oak, pretty long finish. Superb balance and focus, unique flavor. Perfect with brisket and veggies a la plancha in rosemary-garlic oil. This is the kind of wine I was hoping for from the Coro project.

Zinfandel Paso Robles Westside 2005, Peachy Canyon - nice mature Zin fruit with slightly dusty Paso earth tones, moderate Zin spice, smooth and mellow yet completely persistent and well-balanced, like mature Rioja in tone.

A 2010 Baudry Grezeaux was life affirming stuff tonight.
Great minds and all... My cousin and I opened the 'Granges' which was also fresh and vigorous and excellent.

A bottle of Pira 1995 Barolo 'Margheria' had a beautiful nose but was kinda hard in the glass, even with several hours and a lot of air.

It affirms all sorts of existence, but is there a reason to work your way through a bottle right now?
