Opened a few '99s from the Loire recently and found most to be ready or on the way down. If you have any hanging around your cave now may be a good time to check in.
1999 Taluau VV has softened up very nicely. Lovely and virtually tannin free which was a pleasant surprise considering how dense this bottling can be. Still have a few and will drink them up over the next year or two.
Last bottle of 1999 Breton Les Picasses and that's fine even for an obsessive/compulsive like me. Just a hint of pine resin but otherwise delightful, mature Chinon.
1999 Clos Roche Blanche Cot is slipping away with dignity. Rallies after an hour of air but the glimmer is fading. Weightless in the mouth and that is meant in the most positive sense. '98 is still going strong.
After all these funerals something young and fresh is in order. The current bottling of Bordelet Poire Authentique cider was fantastic with beaming acidity and an endless finish. At 4 degrees alcohol I can and will drink this all day long. Great value at $15.
Best,
Kay
