TN: A Visit by Manuel (May 15, 2012)

A fun evening indeed. It had been way too long since Manuel had paid us a visit.

I wouldn't attribute the Weinbach's showing to premox. I bought a mixed case of them at auction and so far all the ones I've opened have turned out to be heat damaged.

Both Bordeaux that Victor bought were lovely, but the Beycheville stole the show. Wonderful grace and elegance, but still showing beautiful fruit. WOTN.

The Joguet was a bit disappointing to me. I really enjoyed the '05 Dioterie on release, but the oak was much more prominent in the '09 and it seemed lower in acid. I have hope that the wine will come together with some age, but I was surprised by its relatively poor showing, especially since Gilman flipped over it in his latest report.

I did like the Granges des Peres. A bit lighter and more elegant than previous vintages, relatively, but still possessing ample fruit levels and nice game notes.

The two Austrians were also quite nice and I've always liked the de Fieuzal. Such a great value to get your Graves earth fix. While not my bottle, the '89 and '90 were some of the first bottles of Bordeaux I ever bought.

For those that don't have facebook, here are some pics from the evening.
