Florida Jim
Doc Watson died at 89.
My daughter and I went to see him often and he became a part of our lives and our shared history. We'll miss him.
Best, Jim

Just saw this elsewhere. I only watched Doc perform live once, but his recorded music has meant a lot over the years: Standing on Top of the World, Deep River Blues, St. James Hospital, Omie Wise, Tom Dooley ... the unbelievably precise guitar, and his voice.

He's moved on to a better place.

I first saw Doc Watson at a Hootenanny taping in the fall of 1964 at The University of Tennessee's College of Agriculture's indoor show ring. He played "Deep River Blues." The song has a beautiful guitar intro. The producer told Doc that when it was time for him to switch from the guitar intro to his singing that he would tap Doc on the foot. Doc started playing the intro, after about 30 seconds the producer started tapping Doc on the foot. Well, Doc just kept playing the guitar and not singing; pretty soon the producer was beating on his foot, and Doc just kept playing the intro. Finally, he started singing. Doc was playing it like he felt it. He was always in the flow.
