next week i will be in san juan del sur, nicaragua. i expect to find no good wine, and subside solely on local rum. anyone have any insight into what i will find (specific places of course appreciated), or what to look for?

Flor de Cana makes some really nice products, due in large part that they held back some stocks for a long time for governmental reasons. (I can't remember the specifics, which are covered in depth in the book 'Boozehound', should you have ready access to it). The 7 year old is a good standby and the long-aged rums are something else--elegant and not overly sweet, which some longer aged rums verge on.

I suppose... if you find yourself near some Costa Rican Peaberry coffee, by all means grab some. And bring me a pound of it, too.

Awesome.

My friend rented a house in San Juan del Sur last year and loved it. He recommended the fresh Mahi Mahi at any of the local restaurants and coffee at the Gato Negro. If you get to Granada, stay at La Colonial and take the boat taxi to the isletas for lunch.
