list of historic CA vineyards

Jeff; just looking through the first couple dozen listings, there are some inacurracies, and it makes me wonder who's in charge of this info.

The site says:
* David Gates (Ridge Vineyards)
* Mike Officer (Carlisle Vineyards)
* Jancis Robinson
* Tegan Passalacqua (Turley Wine Cellars)
* Morgan Twain-Peterson (Bedrock Vineyards)
* Mike Dildine

The site suggests contacting Dildine first.

The site is mentioned in articles by Jancis and in various news/blog reports. It appears they made some effort to get rolling but, perhaps, they don't have anyone sufficiently academically-oriented to do the right research/documentation.

I offer no defense of a stranger's website. Apparently, Dildine's original interest was old vines for Zinfandel.

ETA: The initiative began with a post on some other wine forum. 'nuff said.

I recall the beginning of this project last year. Correcting inaccuracies usually is initiated by the vineyard owners, but if you see something that should be corrected bring it to the attention of the principals. Like most volunteer organizations, they all have day jobs....

How can such a list not include Eisele vineyard?

. . . . . . Pete
I have no particular knowledge of this initiative, but from what I can tell the Eisele vineyard although founded in the 1880s was replanted to Cabernet Sauvignon in 1964 and so may fail the criteria for the society (excerpted below).

- A currently producing California wine vineyard
- Original planting date no later than 1960
- At least 1/3 of existing producing vines can be traced back to original planting date

I think they are focused on preserving truly 'old vine' vineyards vs documenting famous vineyards.
