Some nice wines at Soul Flavors

Manuel was in town a few weeks back. I've given up hope that Chris will post notes from that night so here are my somewhat inadequate observations:

"2009" NV Prevost La Closeries Les Beguines - nice depth of flavor with a hint of almond. some chalk emerges with air along with some unsweeted caramel. the nose really blossomed after about 2 hours. I was a little disappointed with the 2008 but this is back up there with the 2007.

2007 Scherrer Alexander Valley Scherrer Vineyard Old and Mature Vines Zinfandel - Elegant and lovely. People have been telling me for at least ten years that I would like Scherrer Zinfandels. They were right all along. Who knew?

Vajra Della Neve - smooth mousse, quite nice

1964 Jaboulet-Vercherre Chambertin - bit of spice, smooth a delightful Burgundy approaching the half century mark. The only flaw was a hint of ash which came and went. Remarkably it continues to slowly develop all night and when the last drop was drained after several hours it was still going strong.

2001 Knoll ??? Riesling - Citrussy and beautiful. Anyone remember the bottling?

2004 Movia Cabernet Sauvignon - quite nice, I liked it very much.

2010 Eminence Road Cabernet Franc - Andrew and Jen's wines just keep getting better and better. A delightful Cabernet Franc.

There were other wines. I didn't write notes on all of them. So sue me.

Summons in the mail.

I have become quite convinced that any Knoll Riesling over ten years old is just about all one needs of Austrian Riesling.
Best, Jim
