2009 Calluna, Merlot

Florida Jim

Florida Jim
French in style, perfect fruit and burgeoning complexity.
Wonderful with pot roast and as good as CA can do with this grape.
Best, Jim

i am with you here jim. i had all but forgotten about merlot until i tasted this wine with david jeffries. he's doing good things with his bordeaux blends.

the "friends of calluna" is nice way buy a a handful of bottles each year and have them shipped. nice guy too.

Bill,
I may have mentioned this, but I was there when the fruit was brought in for this wine. It was (and still is) the most perfect fruit I have ever seen.
David had only to stand aside and let it become all it could. And, to his credit, he did.
Best, Jim

i remember my first visit to the facility where you, david and (i think) the grey stack guy makes wine. thats when i tasted daves merlot.

just as memorable was watching you guys throw a frisbee around in front all the barrels while cream blared over the speakers. fun times.

Spoken like a true parent, in Santa Vino, where all the grapes are good looking...and above average!

Wasn't aware they made a merlot, still trying to find there cabernet around here...

Mark,
Good call; I do feel a bit proprietary, even if I have no stake in the winery.
But honestly, you should try the wine . . .
Best, Jim
