What three wineries in Oregon would you visit?

Vinopolis is a nice shop. They aim to be the local low price leader on winesearcher. I hear they don't like it when other local sellers try to get in on that angle. Part of me can't blame them. Part of me wants them to let a thousand flowers bloom. Ok, I'll stop that reference. They've sold my wine in the past so full disclosure there. I've shopped there a little for years. They have probably the widest selection in Portland, great for browsing, and they carry lots and lots of really good things (and shit like mine...).

Eric @ http://www.secwines.com is a great guy and is the local expert on Italian/Piedmont wines IMO. Also is very enthusiastic about LDH, Champagne, Huet, Sherry. Super geeky, too. Very price competitive. ...and MOST important...a guy you can actually trust. He wont feed you bullshit to sell a bottle of wine. Eric would rather lose a sale to give you his honest opinion about a wine...and he will gain your trust and learn your palate over time. One of the nicest guys I know in Oregon and Eric has an exceptional disorderly palate. Can't recommend Eric highly enough.

Dan @ Vinopolis is well described above...I don't think he caters to the geek as much as he has an enormous level of stock.

Storyteller has a very distinctive small selection of local stuff and various other random things.

Cool. Thank you all for the info. (I'll be in PDX at thanksgiving time and may have some BYO moments. So, this is very helpful indeed.)

Kirk, Vinopolis often has interesting german stuff as well (e.g., back vintages recently released of Christoffel-Prum). I deal with Brian.

FWIW, PDX is big beer country these days, and whenever I visit I find myself in a flood of heavy local beers, quickly fatigued, etc. But there are some good things, and particularly, if you find yourself on the OR coast, try the Pelican brewery. Gorgeous spot and the beer was awesome. Its been about six years since I was there but my beer geek friends still flip. Many say that their straight IPA is the best in the business, or that's what I hear anyway.
