CWD: '98 Dom du Galet des Papes CndP vv

Just tried a bottle of this at a restaurant in Avignon for what seemed like a reasonable 57 Euros. Tasted pretty good to me. Might have had a slightly herbal note to it, but not enough to be a problem, with a round mouthfeel and silky texture. Rather Burgundian in style, but delicious now and probably unlikely to improve. Price didn't seem so reasonable after the sommelier told me he paid 16 Euros for it originally, but since it was obviously well stored over the years, I suppose I shouldn't complain.

Even without the storage the markup is not the worst. Nice find.

I never really enjoyed the '99 Clos des Papes, which is odd, as I generally love '99 CNdP. The '00 Clos des Papes is delicious and, like most of its 2000 brethren, more open than other recent vintages.

Had the '00 Clos des Papes over the weekend at a wedding. Nice, but never quite shook off the brett (which I'd not noticed before in this vintage), and then shut down hard after 3 hours of airing. Well-balanced, and one worth keeping for a few more years.
