01 Coudoulet

Cellared by me since release. Surprisingly advanced, well into tertiaries, lots of meaty/barky bits. The whole grenache/syrah/mourvedre thing was interesting, you could recognize all the elements. No brett. Does this cuvee normally age this fast?

Speaking of barky, on our way home last night Mme L spotted a stray dog whose name was Farley. He was a very cute pup. We had fun playing with him a bit, called the tracing number on his collar, then got him safely home.

MY experience with Coudelet is that it's quite nice at 10 to 12 but gives every sign that it's time to drink it up. I have a couple of bottles of 99 left to see whether it lies. But for the most part, I listen to it.

I buy Coudoulet most years and finished the 99s recently but still drinking the 01s. However I am also already drinking the 04s and 05s and although I have had the first bottles from each case of the 06s, 07s and 08s I won't start drinking them seriously for a few more years.

I reckon 5-10 years a good guideline for the Coudoulet but they go further in the best years. However without falling off they don't improve significantly for me in the later years.
