2009 Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner Am Berg - Austria, Niederösterreich, Donauland, Wagram (8/22/2012)

I've had great luck with Bernhard Ott's gruner veltliner before. The upper end have been great. The lower end was a good value. But I didn't have much luck with this wine. It was light, so it was a good wine for a hot summer night. Citrus on the nose and palate, and maybe some white fruit on the palate. Short finish. A Valley View Wines import.

2009 Thurnhof Lagrein Alto Adige - Südtirol Merlau - Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Alto Adige - Südtirol (8/22/2012)

A light wine, nice for summer. I got a little bit to the tire tread I understand to be common to lagrein. Darker fruits on the nose and the palate. But it had a sourness I didn't like. It also had a short finish. There was a sizable dent in the screw cap and that may have affected the wine. Sadly, when it comes to lagrein, I'm still chasing that first hit I got with a 1999 Cantina Convento Muri-Gries. An Oliver McCrum(!) import.

2007 Perticaia Umbria IGT - Italy, Umbria, Umbria IGT (8/22/2012)

Explosively bitter on the finish, which mars this wine. A nice nose, maybe some spices there It's full bodied. It was maybe a bit much for the pork ravioli. I don't get the sense that it will improve with age. A North Berkeley Wines import.
