'10 Coudert Griffe des Marquis

When the refrigerated truck from NYC arrived in Chicago...I knew what I had to open...and it didn't disappoint. Some thoughts...

A whiff of the nose and you think you've poured the wrong wine in your glass. This couldn't be Beaujolais. Exotic plum, dark cherry, and meaty tones seems ripped from the Northern Rhone - this base combined with some anise, wild flowers, and some spice to produce a truly exotic nose. The palate is filled with crystalline red fruits with tingly acidity and dense minerality. Was this co-fermented with stones??? It has an airy texture to it...the phrase "fist in velvet glove" comes to mind. I like this very much and imagine it has great aging potential.

I just had one bottle of this a few weeks ago but thought it was very very awkward for many many hours. Did not seem like the best time.

I felt the same way recently about the basic Fleurie 2011.

Anybody have further thoughts on this wine? There's some discounted in the local market.

A preview of the Thursday VLM-TR*, it's fucking amazing. Buy all you can afford and then tell me where it's being discounted.

* As an aside, does anyone even read blogs anymore?

Fucking east coasters. Bunch of jackals.
Let us have the couple of morsels that slip though your greedy little paws unnoticed.

Discounted??? Where is your local market?

Back off Wallace.
Dude, can't you get it wholesale now?

N'existe pas. Allocation has been allocated. There is some in the shop, but I'm giving real customers a chance to buy it.

Hardly unnoticed. crush and CSW both seemed to have ample supply when it first came in. I have plenty, but i just don't like the idea of it languishing, especially at a discount. VLM was pretty clear. Fill your order before telling anybody where the rest can be had.

I don't know about a discount, but CSW still seems to have some.

The ideal situation is to get your customers to buy it, then convince them to open it for you, and, even better, some other potential customers as well. Turning your customers into schnooks who pay for your samples is a great trick, and I have a few retaller friends who have mastered it.

Speaking of morsels, M + M are you getting chantrelles yet? I went out during lunch this week and came up with a big nada, but it may not have been a great place. A ex harverster buddy said they're shoveling them out of OR right now.

not been a great year...

Yup.
Small size and quantity but the ones we found were very tasty and dense.
I would trade 50+ rainless days for a poor chanterelle season every time.
