My fiance asked for a daily-drinker riesling last night, so being a bit of a scamp, I opened a bottle of (entry level QbA) E. Muller without comment and poured it for her.

5 minutes later, she comments, "This is so much more concentrated than the other Rieslings you give me - it's almost too much."

Needless to say, it was an amazingly good bottle, both for its level and even for its price. I hear those who say the quality starts with the spatlese but . . .

I have been tasting various entry-level Kabinetts of late...Leitz, Urbans-Hoff for example and have been pleasantly surprised. I am trying to find a drier style of Riesling so I am in luck with my most recent purchases.

You're a lucky and smart man, David. You have obviously found a good match.

this wine was so different, and still so good on day two. Remarkably dry - really, no more RS than a slutty american chardonnay, but with glorious flinty minerality. This was like muscadet with a pinch of sugar and more concentration, without losing the balance or raciness. Boy, do I love wines from the saar.

The Muller QBA is awesome. I wish I had bought a lot more when Premier Cru had it for some stupid price like $15.
