It can be excellent, but you've had better Rioja. It's unique in that it has a high percentage of garnacha among the traditional GRs. This may be the reason why the whiff of vanilla EA describes, originating from whatever percentage of French barrels is used, is tolerable here, whereas I find it too much of a conflict in the wines with more tempranillo.
