It's an egregiously ridiculous comparison, imo, no matter how justified one's irritation with David.

in the span of egregious metaphor, is it really comparable to using "plums" and "berries" as a descriptor of every single fucking red wine on the planet?

That would be comparing apples to oranges.

I know it's poor form to go serious, but wtf, immature wine and children starved or coerced into the sex trade? Give me a break.

quite right. the tired and testes way to draw attention to the evils in the world is to not mention them in polite company. indeed, that's how we have ensured that there is no sex trade in america for us to joke (tastelessly) about.

for which we thank god, because if there were, fining teh 'hos would amount to state pimping.

shudder to think. i will have my henchmen defenestrate yixin forthwith.

oh, my fellow groupthinkians, you can discuss this on the big board

i share yixin's love for the fact that utter fucking retards have a place to voice their opinions. this shit is what made mollydooker what it was, after all.

moreover, nor would i say that yours is a bad place to be: these blind probings may still legitimize ladyboys amongst the uptight and prejudiced, which can only be a good thing.

but like yixin, i find i want to hear about your current experiences about as much as i want to hear about your potty training; again, which is not to say that i don't applaud each poop as it comes.

I do enjoy the notion that anyone who doesn't hew nice and closely to the creepily conformist vibe here is an "utter fucking retard". But look, this shit works; people like to be surrounded by others who reinforce their existing beliefs. Same reason folks watch foxnews or nee-MSNBC

ah, on second thought...nevermind. I get it now. Anti-establishmentism. Buck the trend...first Rhys, now Texier. Sniper gets the glory. "I showed them!" Internet 101.

Z-dude, if you actually had an argument other than chest-pounding someone might give a shit. But the 2-point lead in the big poll is not impressive, and that's as far as you go.

The meta-argument is a snooze.

I think your literalness is missing Yixin's point entirely.
Not that Sir r slicker's chubby point here and the later one aren't totally sensible too, albeit along a somewhat different line, IMHO.

fatboy's invective aside, the notion that this bored has a conformist vibe is laughable. We do tend to share a general appreciation for the non-industrial efforts out there where attention is given to viticulture and a desire to convey a sense of place, but underneath that general umbrella resides a vast ecosystem of tastes and opinions. Have you not seen discussions of Grenache-based wines made in torridly hot climes, or a good Kane/Miller faceoff regarding the aliveness/DOAness or shrillness/balanced nature of various wines? And that's not even touching on the various one-off debates and differences of opinion that arise here with some regularity. Your dismissal of the diversity of opinion here is sadly reminiscent of a certain wine critic's dismissal of the "anti-flavor wine elite" (or was that the "wine Taliban"?) And you've never even met the WT/WD Welcome Wagon.

You will be assimilated to the collective. Your wine will be pale red or dark orange and highly acidic.

Resistance is futile.

What the fuck are you doing drinking a 2010 Cote-Rotie? Clearly blind doesn't mean your other senses (especially common) are heightened.

I like M. Texier's wines, but tend to give them a little time to mature-maybe not BJ's 'rule of fifteen' mature, but not two-year-old Cote-Rotie dewy-fresh either.

Polite company? WTF, I thought we were talking about this bored.

Mention them all you want, please: a recent PBS documentary, Half the Sky, has footage on the rape of a three-year-old, along with material on trafficking; I hope it's widely viewed. But then, why hold back: wouldn't this image be an even more effective way of portraying the unspeakable indecency of opening a Cote Rotie at age 2? When you have enough disposable income to enjoy wine as a hobby, the world's your oyster, I guess.

Yixin's an illustrious comrade, and his sharp wit is almost on a par with your obesity's, but this particular comment was ill-judged, imo.

Here we are getting upset about underage sex slaves getting traded around metaphorically, when these poor ducks are getting banged in an undisclosed location.
