Brane Cantenac

Chateau Brane-Cantenac '83 -- Dark red, luscious Claret scents, cedar, currants, leather, tobacco, nice range of melange of fruits, everything in balance, tannins mostly mellowed out, wonderful classic expression of Bordeaux. [E]

Perfect accompaniment with Rack of Lamb and Butternut Squash/Kale Risotto.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Dow Crusted Port '87 -- Dark almost inky red, probably close to an inch of sediment, lots of deep mostly black fruits, some nuttiness, dark chocolate notes, full bodied, finesseful power, smooth with fine tannins, delivered the goods. [VG - E]

Paired nicely with praline cookies.

a really nice vintage in southern medoc, a number of gems from that area also including du tertre, d'issan, cantemerle. I am still trying to sort out why the wines are more consistent than further north, whether it was cepage or just location.

Aleksandr, Yes, and I would extend your assessment in broader terms in Bordeaux.

The 1983 Margaux wines are probably among the better examples of wines that turned out better than pundits gave them credit for.

I have always thought Chateau Margaux '83 was/is marginally better than its highly acclaimed '82 counterpart. The Brane Cantenac '82 and '83 usually rank equally high in my views. And so on!

Hurry up! There's not much time left!

A bit interesting (and surprising?)!

The left over Dow Crusted Port '87 was re-sampled 24 hours later after remaining in the decanter sealed with a top and residing in the refrigerator.

The fruit was virtually gone. It was almost all alcohol.

Another superb showing of the Ch Brane Cantenac '83.

Started the evening with cheese and crackers and Eric's Rouletabulle which garnered high praised from all present.

Then the Brane Cantenac was as fine or maybe even better than last time with rack of lamb, butternut squash spaghetti, and salad. Alas, my last bottle! I still have some of the '82 which hopefully will show as well.

And then pecan pie and dulce de leche ice cream paired with the left over Cossart Gordon Madeira 1845.

Quite a nice evening!

1983 Chateau Margaux was one of the wines that made Lisa's eyes look like a winning slots pull in Vegas, and cemented her eternal devotion to chasing the Bordeaux dragon.
