Grange Tiphaine

The only wines I've had are the '05 Cot and the '07 Rose. I recall the Cot being quite nice, juicy and balanced. I think I paid ~$12 for it. I notice the '06 and '07 are a few bucks more. When I was tasting a number of Roses for warm weather drinking (probably a dozen or so in one weekend), I was very impressed by the Rose. The price ($10) made it a steal. If you're into drinking Rose during cooler weather, I highly recommend it.

Damien Delecheneau is talented. Have had the Touraine Amboise gamay in 2005 and 2006, which is lovely, supple and deep, and the Montlouis "Clef de Sol," which is a nice, mineral chenin (yes).

Over here, they're more expensive than what Larry notes, though.

K&L imports them directly for their retail stores. That's probably why the prices are reasonable. I'm a bit surprised the wines are more expensive in France.

There is a centennial prephyloxera vines of Cot with "marcottage". It's very nice too see. Imho, wines are nice but a little bit "techno" (Delechenaut is an "oenologue"), very clean, maybe too clean.

Look's like I'll be trying some of the Gamay this evening - I'll post a note or something.

In addition I tried the 2006 Becarre, and was pretty impressed. It is a young-vine cab franc, and a deep, but juicy thing at that. Quite good.

Well, due to a series of unfortunate events I tried the Ad Libitum. It was good. Nice fresh fruits, a very clean and focused wine that finished with a touch of structure. I'm told this is a blend of Cab Franc, Gamay and Cot, but it came off much more Gamay-y. Carbonic maceration? Seems to be...

I look forward to trying the straight Gamay very soon.

This reeks of Jeff Viera.

We had the Montlouis Brut and the 06 Cot last night. Both were excellent. The Montlouis was pleasingly nutty on the nose and with a great creamy texture. The Cot was the real stunner: juicy, deep, almost weightless in the mouth and with a level of finesse that is quite unusual for this level.

Hey, I helped drink a bottle of the Brut on that very same night. Imagine that. The Les Bulles with the fancy gold label, yes?

We liked it alright although it was a birthday party with lots of bubblies and not a good time for critical analysis.

I'm probably hoping for too much here, but would you say that the Cot is stylistically similar to the inimitable Clos Roche Blanche edition?

I will resist the temptation to remind you of the definition of inimitable and simply note that I have not had any Clos Roche Blanche (for shame, I know).

And Les Bulles, yes.

Eh, perhaps not the best turn of phrase.

We'll have to do something about that. My stocks are scandalously low, but I think I know whose cellar to look in.
