Really? With new cars you pay the sucker tax. For the cars I buy, if you buy a 2 year old version, you can pay 55-65% of the original sticker.

I'm lucky to be married to a champion bargainer. In 30 years of continuous car ownership (and 20 years of dual car ownership) I've bought 4 cars. The model is to buy a new car, heavily discounted, and keep it for 20+ years while maintaining it in top condition. It's worked for me so far: my first car, an '81 Honda Civic, I traded in (210K miles with original drive train intact) for my current car in 2003. Considering that I bought that '81 Civic for $4K in cash, I think that I got my money's worth out of it. YMMV VLM.

My model is to buy a fast car and then total it before it needs new tires (they cost like $2K!).

Well, not totally fucking funny, but pretty funny.

And yet I get grief here for my driving when the worst thing I've done is hit a cab that swerved out from being double parked at Papaya King and his metal bumper punched through the plastic grill of the minivan I was driving then, cracking the plastic radiator.

It's the big one your riders fear.

First of all, NYers can't drive.

Second, neither accident was my fault. Both happened in foul weather and I received settlements for both.

Both times, being in a sports-type car may have saved my life (really good seatbelts, bucket seats, excellent brakes).

Sharon, honey, don't let the twins see those pictures.

I'd seen the second one on your blog; the first one is much worse. Dodged a bullet, looks like.

I'll post a prayer for you on the Christian wine geek board.
