My friend Glenn is a Renaissance man. He builds guitars for a living, loves to fish, forages mushrooms and is in the process of building a mud pizza oven in his back yard. Glenn buys wine from me on a regular basis. Over the summer while tasting, he mentioned that he never finds Pinot Noir worth the money. I agreed that the wines can be pricey, certainly not an everyday thing on our incomes but, when made well, they are worth the money. Last night my family joined Glenn’s for dinner. He made pasta with freshly foraged lobster mushrooms, roasted cauliflower and a sauce made from dried porcinis. I opened a bottle of 2002 Boillot Volnay Les Caillerets and it did the voodoo that Burgundy do so well. I don’t know if I will be selling Glenn any Pinot soon, but I think his opinion might have changed.
