Prompted me to open a bottle long (willfully) forgotten. '97 conteisa. Not terrible but so very rootless. A bit of fruit, a bit of earth, a bit of oak, touch of dried rose and sweet leather. I'd have no idea what this was if served blind, a la Zylberberg.

So sad. My friend Bianca's Uncouth Vermouth project was based in the Red Hook Winery; she got all her base wine for the vermouth from them and stored her bottled product there. Somehow, all 1008 bottles of her vermouth survived. (http://uncouthvermouth.com/)
