03 Rousset les Picaudieres

With a picnic from Vita's on Lopez, down on Iceberg Point. Birding highlight was a small group of Ancient Murrelets in close to shore that we watched for 20-30 minutes.

I bought this bottle at the little gourmet grocery in Bow. Really delicious, not overripe, and very nice old vine complexity. Olivey, secondary, well structured, warm. An interesting counterpoint to the 02 Clape Cornas the eve prior.

Hey, does John still have that bottle in his shop, or was this an earlier purchase?

What was L's take on the Croze Hermitage?
Knowing how she feels about CH, I will be more impressed if she liked it too.

Was the Clape ready?
The last two 2002 N Rhones I've tried have been very drinkable.

This was bought a while back, maybe five years ago? I remember discussing back then online. The Mme loved it. I think a combo of hillside and vintage.

The Clape was totally ready. I bought a bunch of this on close out. It has been real ashy and interesting for a while, but now it turned a fairly hard corner and it's sweeter, simpler, and for me less interesting - but it's very nice. I wish I'd opened it next to the 96 Cotes du Rhone, it would have been an interesting comparison. They tasted like wines of about the same age.
