2004 Puffeney Arbois Vieilles Vignes

slaton

Slaton Lipscomb
A rather quiet nose, just some gentle notes of rosehip and cranberry and a few savory game creeping in at the edges. The palate has a tart cranberry, underripe strawberry fruit character, and some gentle fruit sweetness, but what hooks me is the gorgeous texture and sneaky concentration. There's a wonderfully expansive, semi-spherical impression, with extremely fine, gentle tannins, and satisfying length.

This is delightful currently, if a bit subdued. I've loved this vintage for Puff's reds since release, and am happy to have another bottle of this to try in 2015 or so.

Maybe because I started, stopped, and deleted?

He nailed 2004. I am hoping the 2007's get there in a few years.

This is wonderfully weird.

Jeff, how did you break the seal?
Actually, this entertainment is brought to you by Your Local Politburo: the posting time on my and Oswaldo's earlier contributions are off by an hour. If you linger your mouse over the 'reply' button you can see that the sequence number for the responses is sensible.

Oh, wait, what I meant to say was: Fire and ash, roast pork and cinders! Bang!

We have finally created the postmodern thread. The internet has been so retro up until now. In my only recently acquired taste for Jura, I find the wine that instigated this moment to be fitting. Don't ask me why. though.

Thanks for the note Slaton. I've never had the '04 of this, but I've got one lone bottle of the '03 that I've been holding off opening. For whatever reason, I want to try it at the 10 year mark. The '03 was the bottle that got me into Puff and the Jura in general, so I've got my fingers crossed that it'll continue to shine.

I don't believe Puffeney makes the VV anymore. Anybody know what happened?

In that case, I have some very lovely counterfeit 05.

That said, I was told that after the 05, he was going to stop making it. So clearly, he's got a great marketing scheme going--buy it now! Last vintage ever!

Okay, 2005.
