TN: In the Cellar Again (Dec. 1, 2012)

I think that the Olek-Mery is a more archetypal expression of the greater region, while I have on occasion accused Rougeard of trying to be a one-stop shopping. But this bottle was not; it was unique enough. I had accused d'Angerville of the same thing years ago, but was proven wrong when the wines had reached enough age. I assume I have been woefully mistaken about Rougeard as well, as this bottle indicates. This bottle, btw, was in a nice place, but I know even less about these things than GG does.

Scherrer 2007 Syrah "Sasha" RRV - after two hours in the decanter this was just starting to reveal itself; pretty floral nose, silky texture, rather lightweight for CA syrah (amusingly, the back label apologizes for the lack of heft compared to pinot noir); Fatboy instantly picks up a whiff of tea, on entry, but also finds all flavor falls off dramatically, even before swallowing ("This wine is my idea of Hell.")

it was short, but only vaguely awful, my corpulent hyperbole notwithstanding. and it was, i thought, serious, which is a rarity in cali these days.

so while i did think that it sucked, i admired the intention, and i was interested to try it. so thanks -- jay also.

Dom. Ramonet 1995 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er "Clos de la Boudriotte" - rouge; Mammas, don't let your babies grow up to make stinky, closed, reduced pinot-based wines, Don't let 'em pick red grapes in a white-grape terroir or drive them old trucks...; well, somewhere under all that nasal sewage there was a medium-weight, sweet-fruited wine; it's gonna take a decade for this to clear up on its own

Well, a bottle of Dom. Ramonet 2010 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er "Clos de la Boudriotte" was marvelous this evening with repurposed Thanksgiving food. It is a different vintage and younger than when this bottle was consumed, so not an apples-to-apples comparison by any stretch. But so good that my better half let me out of doing the dishes as a reward for opening such a nice bottle of wine.

Bittersweet thread reboot. Me thinks that the ‘95 they had six years ago was an off-bottle. Boudriotte is a prime clay over limestone site for lithe red-fruited Pinot, despite my friend’s suggestion to the contrary in the OP. Your bottle of the ‘10 sounds wonderful. 2010 Ramonet reds I’ve had — the village and Clos St Jean — have been excellent. I’m sad I missed the ‘10 Clos de la Boudriotte on release.

And, that was my only bottle. Oy.

I don't know. I had a couple of other 95s that were impossibly reduced around the same time, including a Roumier Les Cras that had been wonderful before and has been since.

So it was an awkward period or a phase of the moon or ....?

That 2010 Ramonet Clos de la Boudriotte is a quite a wine, especially when price is considered in today's Burgundy. I'm sure those on this Bored already know that there was a time, not so long ago, when Chassagne was largely planted to red.

Jim, I believe that 40% of Chassagne's production is still of red wine. I seem to recall that ~33% of the vines are red fruit.

I used to buy these, from any vintage, whenever I ran across them. The village, Clos St Jean, and Boudriotte. I don't see them as often as I once did, and the price isn't quite as good as it once was, but when I recently came across some Boudriotte from the 2014 vintage I grabbed them.

Bittersweet thread reboot.

I wasn't paying much attention to the thread when I posted my comment above about the 2010 Boudriotte. Just looking for a good spot to put a positive comment about a lovely wine. It is indeed bittersweet to revisit the discussion in the original posts.
