1997 Domaine du Jaugaret

Robert Dentice

Robert Dentice
I have really fallen in love with these wines. The 97 is the oldest that I have had. Initially closed down hard. After 30 minutes it somewhat opened up. Nice aromatics. Extremely smooth wine with a hint of leather and a pleasing undertone of bell pepper and other green characteristics. Overall a very nice wine but at today's price point it did not make a case for aging others.

Any other experiences with aged examples of this producer?

The artist formerly known as Josh Raynolds' employer.

Is it true they are having trouble holding on to AOC status ? Why on earth?

In NY Astor, Chambers and Discovery have a small amount of recent releases.

Rouge Tomate has it on their list with a reasonable markup.

I will bring one the next time we are drinking.

I was curious to try these after Eric Asimov wrote them up awhile ago. They are indeed really expensive but it's not just the importer factor, they were priced at 2nd or 3rd growth level in France too. My current favorite for a Bordeaux you can buy without hating yourself or breaking the bank is the Guittot-Fellonneau 2005 courtesy of Moore Bros. and other like-minded shops in the tri-state area.

Indeed. Part of Astor's Tuesday sale today.
