Monsecco 2005 Gattinara - decanted for 2 hours... closed, tannic, brutal; try again at 6 hours (alas, long after dinner)... starting to show red fruits and flowers; next day... flowery and fruity, lightweight, still gives a slight stinging sensation, definitely a nebbiolo flavor profile but no earth or tar or goudron to give it the heft of an "important" wine; more like the Hawaiian Punch nebbiolo wine

It is true. Jeff once decanted a wine in the cellar, to be tasted during his next visit, but forgot to leave a "do not touch" note for us.
 
I had this a few weeks ago and really liked it. I don't know it if'll prove worthy of the old Monseccos, but it definitely seems like another star in the Gattinara firmament.
