2011 Foillard Cote de Py

I will be interested to see what others think here, but my first impression is that this lacks the stuffing or interest of some of the earlier vintages. The comparison I saw somewhere between the Foillard and ripe Chateauneuf du Pape came to mind when tasting a first bottle--very ripe red (mostly)-black fruit, with some spiciness, but at the same time only a modest impact on the mid-palate. The wine strikes me as also considerably more dilute (despite the evident ripeness) than the 2009 and 2010 examples I have tasted. Maybe this will fill out and sharpen up with time??

In my infinite wisdom this sounds strange, as to my tastes Foillard has produced delicious wines in every vintage (since I started drinking them in early 2000s). But I don't actually know anything.

I did have a weird 2011 Chamonard the other week. Nothing seemed wrong with the bottle but then nothing seemed right either. I decided to wait before opening another because I just don't believe that was all it had to show.

Fleurie or Morgon?

I think '12 Morgon Chamonard is much better place right now. I was told by a good ITB friend that '13 is a killer too.

Oh, you tricky vignerons.

Because of you, Rahsaan, I opened a bottle. Mine's fine. 2008 is very nice now.

Good to hear. I have no fear.

I also have no 2008, aside from 2011 I only have 2009.

I would not say the Foillard is flawed--it is still tasty at a certain level, and with additional air drinks reasonably well. It just strikes me as slightly dilute and short in the finish, especially as compared to the 2011 Lapierre Morgon I tasted the week before.

Same experience here with a bottle in December.

Haven't tried the regular 2011, but the 3.14 was outrageous(ly good). I also liked the 2010 Cd Py very much.

2011 3,14? where does one get that (other than barrel samples)?

I loved the 2010. All our bottles got cooked in transit.

2nd day in, the 2011 is tough as nails. I suspect the 2014 is showing similarly.

Sorry, thinking of the 2009 3.14, which I tasted along side the 2011 Lapierre cuvee Marcel. Both were clarifying.

And speaking of clarity, totally unrelated, I read the NYT review of Lawrence Wright's Going Clear yesterday. Some potentially rich material there for the politburo. Have you really never considered taking WD cult, PB?

We are looking for a good price on a double-wide.

Going on hiatus takes on a whole new meaning.
