How to ship wine?

A non-purveyor needs to ship a carefully packed and unlabeled box containing a 6-pack of wine from Manhattan to another non-purveyor in another state but the shippers say they can't ship it.

Can someone suggest how to ship the wine?

Cole, I remember back in the '90s there was talk about a lot of cranberry juice being shipped on a regular basis.

I thought those days were gone.

Tell NP1 to get a 6-bottle carton from a local wine store. Pack wine into it. Put that box in another box. Lie to nosy shipper. Voila.
 
What Jeff said. Honesty, sad to say, is not the best policy in this case. I also use a third party shipping service that seems to have adopted the "don't ask, don't tell" approach. Works for me. One thing I learned this Winter was to not tell FedEx that you're shipping computer parts either, as they want to package those in special packaging and won't ship 'em otherwise.

Ian, Tried that! A "friendly wine retailer" who has handled a lot of this person's wine business said he couldn't ship the wine even to a fellow wine purveyor. He acknowledged that he is losing significant business due to this but said he had no choice.

I had no idea things had gotten this bad again.

It isn't. I have friendly wine retailers ship from NY to me all the time.

What is the state this friend is shipping to? If it's Texas, Montana, or a few others, then that's the issue.
 
I've found the important thing to do is make sure you pack it and print the shipping label in advance. Then, all you have to do is drop the package off--no one at the ups store gets to ask you any questions.
 
Shipping wine yourself? Why not just order it and have them ship for you? Have you heard of suckers.com? Apparently, they're like this flash sale site for wine. Well, I just brought the Truchard Pinot Noir 2010 as a gift for my mother. It was less than $18 a bottle! And to top it off, it was free shipping and I found this coupon code for $10 off, $10$OFF.
 
In case I didn't already report back, it was decided to forgo the wine and just settle for olive oil...which is now safely residing in the olive oil cellar.
