Ganevat 2010s

SFJoe

Joe Dougherty
Opened a couple of Ganevat 2010s last night (savagnin Chalasses Marnes Bleus, chard Chamois du Paradis) and was rather disappointed. Lacking in zip, intensity, interest.

Anyone else tried the wines? Was it just too late in the evening?

I have not tasted the 2010 whites from Ganevat, as they are not yet available in the US, but you are not the first to express concern about them. I understand from a source I generally trust that the wines led to some questions last year when tasted from barrel. Some of the ouille whites were apparently showing more oxidation than one would expect. Perhaps a tiny bit of sulphur is not always such a bad thing? I was also told that at least one of the 2011 reds was showing an unpleasant amount of VA. Just the rumors I have heard...

Very very curious about these wines myself...I don't think we'll see them from Kermit until Spring, right?

I recently had two of the '10 reds: pinot and poulsard...I was surprised that I preferred the Pinot..the acidity was more in line with what I am looking for, but they are also younger vines.

One CMB since was much better. From the same source. Tasted with the same wine professionals.

'11 JV vg tonight.

My faith is still shaken, but not destroyed.

Your report drove me to take refuge last night in 2011 Schaefer domprobst kab #16. It is comforting to to touch the still center of the turning world every now and then.

oh - so you had it from half bottle, which Crush kindly brought in under cork, to make sure we can still touch that still center :-)

I sense a blind tasting is upon us! (if one of them is corked, it will be particularly amusing)

Fine plan. Be very interesting to compare the #3 and the #16.

not to mention 16 subjected to different entrapment methodologies

( I made the mistake with the 2007 vintage of assuming that the AP## were unique to closure, e.g. #7 for cork and #16 for SC for GD Kab, only to be corrected by a friend in a country to be named later, who pointed out that #16 under cork was the house wine )
