The night before we went to MF Sushibar, SueSue and I had dinner at Fleming’s Steakhouse and Wine Bar. We’re really not steakhouse people, but Sam Governale is the Operating Partner at this Fleming’s. If you were in Atlanta last decade, you would know Sam. He was a great sommelier and worked at several Atlanta restaurants. While this was our first time at a Fleming’s Steakhouse, I don’t believe that it is a typical steakhouse; it has 100 wines by the glass. Beyond that we had no doubt that as always Sam would bring some special wines to go with our food.

And that’s what happened. With a tuna tartar we had a beautiful 2010 Castell-Reynoard Bandol Rose - very light and intense. With our small plate entrees, Sam brought out a 1988 Domaine de Souviou. This wine started out tight but with decanting and about 20 minutes, it was a dead ringer for an 80s 1st or 2nd growth Bordeaux. It is 100% mourvedre. With a cheese course, he served a 2007 Domaine Cauhape Symphomie Novembre - off-dry but with great acidity. It was an excellent match for the wines.

We also met Sam and his new wife, Tina, at Provisions, a farm to table restaurant. This restaurant had a book-like wine list with amazing depth. Our waitress had an incredible knowledge of the list that was demonstrated as Sam asked her to compare various wines. Like Fleming’s Steakhouse, we will be back.
best,
