I had to miss the La Paulee Grand Tasting but some nice wines in the cellar made up for it:
1999 Pol Roger Winston Churchill
Started out a bit dull but really put on layers with air. A wonderful Champagne
1988 Salon
Started out seeming dead, with air it morphed into a delightful caramelly note. Maybe not a pristine bottle but delicious nonetheless. For those who remember these things I'd say it's halfway between the bottle Manuel brought to the 1988 dinner with Jayson, Marty and myself before Jayson left for lawschool and the bottle he brought to Inside a few months later.
2007 Cuvee Marie Jurancon Sec
Delicious
2005 Pied Franc Verdelho
I can't make out the producer from my photo but this was amazing. Vibrant and young. Verdelho in the style of HGS era Muller Catoir. Unfortunately from what Manuel says the winemaker departed and the current wines are not nearly as good
2001 Cazin Cheverny
Another surprise that Manuel had intended for early drinking before he left for the DR. Wonderfully alive with great grapefruity intensity. Who said 2001 was a weak vintage in the Loire?
2007 Scherrer OMV Zinfandel
Started out much riper fruitier than a bottle last year but with air it developed a luscious harmonious berry profile.
