Quick impressions from last night

Another bottle of the S Magnien 2010 MSD last night was very good. It is a little tight and needs air, but eventually opens to a very floral nose. Nice pure red fruited flavors. Really pretty.

1996 Breton Bourgueil Grand Mont was horribly corked.

2011 Huet LHL sec was very nice, tangy and citrusy, not much sweetness showing. Maybe a bit of swampy Chenin funkiness lurking. It was crowd pleaser and the first bottle finished.

2009 Faury St Joseph had been open the day before, but was pretty classic black olive and pepper, seems ready to drink if you can say that from a bottle opened the day before. Consistently one of my favorite St Joseph these days.

2009 Gramenon Sierra du Sud was a big inky wine that I thought on taste was a Grenache blend but my host informs me its Syrah. Boisterous garrigue and warm dark fruit, a small pour was really pretty good for a S Rhone Syrah.
