The night of St Patrick's Day. We are just about the only people in the restaurant. The soundtrack of popular music wanders across the decades, occasionally catching my attention. But the focus is on a civilized, charming, funny, entertaining evening.
Gahier 2004 Arbois Chardonnay "Fauquette" - Steve thinks this is wood-marked; fresh on entry with tingly yellow fruits and a bit of resin in the finish, and salty! but there's a butterscotch note in the center of it that reminds Steve of a barrel
Lo Triolet 2011 Pinot Gris - mountain wine, zingy but not savory like the Gahier, no really distinct fruit profile but a light enticing nose, then clean and crisp and slightly smoky
Tissot 2009 Arbois Trousseau "Singulier" - tannic, a bit of lavender and ripe cherries, so bright
Vieux Telegraphe 2008 Chateauneuf-du-Pape - suave, maybe too clean, very grenache... and two-dimensional
Steve also mentioned a related St. John project: one vid, two vid
