Charleston recommendations?

For me, anyway, Husk has demonstrated what happens when you take the locavore concept to it's logical extreme: Once in a while something truly wonderful, but mostly not. I'd go for Husk's older and more conventional sibling, McRady's.

I haven't been to The Grocery yet, but friends in the business speak highly of it.
 
I was at Husk last month and enjoyed everything that I ordered, but others at the table didn't fare so well. Wine list was small, reasonably priced (all two digits iirc) but had a few surprises, including the 1987 Quintarelli Valpo. that I picked up. Didn't have a chance to try Fig, but that was highly recommended. For lunch, the smoked duck sandwich washed down with a half bottle of cahors at Bull Street Market made the best of a very rainy day. And for caffeine fix, try Black Tap Coffee.
 
I used to live in Charleston a while back. Fig, EVOO, Hominy Grill, sandwiches from ted's butcher block for a picnic. Enjoy! Go to folly beach! Zia taqueria on the way out is superb.
 
Have any of the locals been to the new reincarnation of The Old Post Office on Edisto Island?
That place was great and made a killer version of shrimp grits.
They had a special farm that grew the corn for them they used for their grits.
 
If he is still there, The Macintosh on upper King, great bar, wine list and food....Rue St Jean...Virginia's on King for breakfast...travel a bit to Johns Island for the Fat Hen(it has been a year, think it is still there), plus all the others previously mentioned...envious..
