Boston Marathon Finish bombed

Yes, though the small scale of the bombs makes me wonder whether it might just be some homegrown wing nut.

And we'll have to see if the tax day timing has anything to do with it. Regardless, it's appalling.

It's now being reported that two are dead, including an eight year old boy and well over 100 injuries and that local hospitals have already performed ten amputations on victims thus far.

While the bombs were relatively crude in their power, ie, no high grade explosives like C4 used, they did apparently contain ball bearings to maximize shrapnel damage.

Just horrific.

Tim McVeigh was a homegrown wing nut... And a terrorist. Nationality has nothing to do with it. The two bombs that detonated and the 3-4 placed along the end of the route on Boylston Street were designed to inflict maximum injuries in a crowded area. Jarring indeed to watch the national news and see one of my daughter's friends, who finished the race as the bombs went off, being led off the course in tears by a policeman while her father ran to the victims to try to help.

Oh, absolutely. Impossible to contradict.

He also worked on a larger scale, in his wing nut way.

Very relieved to continue to hear one way or another of the safety of our Boston comrades.

Seth Hill, most recently.

Memo to Chief Davis: Please don't shoot any suspects. I would really like to hear, in a court of law, somebody explain what they hoped to gain by doing this.

Coinciding this year with the 3rd Monday in April state holiday of Patriot's Day.

Update

Each doctor who has spoken before TV cameras and reporters this morning has described similar things: Pellets, small BBs, headless nails—projectiles they believe were packed with the bombs, removed from some patients by the dozens.

“My opinion is that most of them were in the bomb,” said Dr. George Velmahos, trauma chief at Massachusetts General Hospital. “I think it’s unlikely they would be so consistent if they were pulled out from the environment.”

Dr. David P. Mooney, Boston Children’s Hospital trauma director, described deep shrapnel wounds in a 10-year-old being treated there who is in critical condition.

Dr. Ron Walls, an emergency physician from Brigham and Woman’s Hospital, gave a similar description of the items found, saying that nails or small ball bearings were removed from several patients. The items “clearly were designed to be projectiles that were built into the device.”

At Boston Medical Center, Dr. Andrew Ulrich said the shrapnel “could be described as buckshot.”

Ugh:

Boston Looting Of Marathon Jackets As People Die Few Feet Away

. . . . . . Pete

Actually, no, I can't. Way to take a small humanitarian gesture and give it a sinister slant, internet. Have you never met anyone from Boston, internet?

Boston ‘Looting’ Video Likely Just Volunteers

The news of the eBay postings come after a YouTube user uploaded a video, claiming that people were looting in the aftermath of the bombing. However, a number of Internet users were quick to point out that it appeared that people were simply doling out Boston Marathon jackets to people affected by the tragedy.

“These were not ‘looters.’ The [Boston Marathon] organizers dropped the boxes off and told people to take them. Their idea was that it would help with the cold and at that point no one cared about cost,” said one user on Reddit after the “looting” video was posted there.

“I WAS THERE. THEY WERE GIVING THEM AWAY to comfort injured or those who could not go back to hotel. The guy whom you can see carrying the boxes brought them to us. Yes, some people took advantage of? it, what can you do, but it’s not looting what you see,” another user commented.
