TN: Bye to Bill

1999 Jean-Marc Boillot Volnay Carelle Sous La Chapelle 13.0%
There are, at the very least, five Boillots in Volnay/Pommard: Henri, Jean-Marc, Lucien, Louis and Albert. Henri is maybe the best known, but I find him too woody. Jean-Marc seems to have a lighter touch (the others I've never seen or tasted, so they may not exist). This Volnay seemed to come from a happy place; smelling of tea and smoked meats, it went down the gullet pleasantly, with perky acidity and amicus curiae fruit.

Technically Louis is based in Chambolle, but he does make wines in Volnay/Pommard. I'm a fan, although I don't have comprehensive experience with the other Boillots! This weekend I had the 2012 Volnay Grands Poisots from Louis and liked it quite a bit, but will be holding off on my other bottles for a while.

People always say nebbiolo is Burgundian.

I miss Bill already and he hasn't even left the thread yet.

That's only because Barololian sounds silly.
