I am so innocent

I had no idea that Guigal had a St. Joseph that retails for 120 bucks at a discount caviste in CA.

Anyone tasted it?

2010 Guigal "Vignes de l'Hospice".

OK, then:

"After fermentation, it is aged for 30 months in 100% new barrels, clarified by racking only, and bottled unfiltered."

Jesus. Just what St. Joseph is all about.

I don't recall a separate bottling for de Vallouit, but Grippat had a Hospice bottling which was classic granitic Syrah (ie no 30 months in new oak). The lieu dit is probably a better bottling of St-Joseph (less inky, more NoRho) if one wants to go the spendy Guigal route.

I am sure comrade Eric knows more.

1990 Guigal Hermitage was such a nice party wine.
$25 at Cork & Bottle.
I am getting all sentimental now.

I remember '83 Cote Rotie, such a presbyter I am.

Speaking of 1983 Côte-Rôtie, I just found a bottle of 1983 Levet in my cellar that I'd completely forgotten about. It was the first vintage for Levet, following the passing of Nicole's legendary father Marius "Ton-Ton" Chambeyron.

Forgot, or senility?

:) Forgot. I only now have time to begin to catalog what I have, and it is piles and piles of boxes in four different lockers at two different locations plus more at home -- quite a task!

Nice. At a recent Levet vertical tasting there was some talk about this wine, it's said to be fabulous despite being Bernard & Nicole's first vintage.

'85 Brune et Blonde, consumed in a motel in Rapid City, SD as we traveled Westward to our CA postdoc positions. Am I a presbyter too?
