2005 Lafouge 1er Les Duresses - This was beautiful and in a great place. Wish I bought tons of this. This had a little brett but only a touch, much cleaner than the last bottle. I am definitely looking forward to the Chapelle and Climat du Val.

1996 Latour Corton Charlemagne - Beautiful right out of the gate, no oxidation and the material was terrific. After awhile, a corky tone peeked in but was very mild and never really asserted itself.
 
Hi Marc,

Have you had the 2009? Even in the context of the vintage, I was surprised how ripe it was. I think I might have missed 2010, which would be a shame as I generally love their wines.
 
Haven't tried the wine from the 2009 vintage.
There is a ripe side to the 2010, but nicely balanced I thought.
Maybe there is some new oak flavor there too, not a lot.
Not certain about the oak, it was something just at the threshold of detection for me.

I was surprised at the friendliness and generosity a couple of months ago, given my expectations of Auxey-Duresses. But then again my expectations may need revision.
 
I didn't love the Lafouge 2009s, not so much on account of ripeness, they were just a little soft and dull. The 2010s are great though!
 
I keep hearing so many reports of 2005s drinking well. I had followed accepted wisdom and buried mine on the back of the top shelf. Maybe I made a mistake?
 
I was surprised at how open this was. Having said that, this bottle is the earliest drinking one in the Lafouge stable of 1ers. I haven't touched the others yet.
 
This is the first report I've read anywhere of an 05 Burg drinking well; most other notes have been in the vein of warnings to abide. I'm holding my small cache in deep storage as an eventual component of my long-term retirement package.
 
Just a couple of recent 2005s to report on.
The Lafarge Bourgogne was closed tight, this was several months ago.
Last week the 05 Barthod Bourgogne Bons Batons over several hours showed a few glimpses of opening up, but it was mainly a tease. Lots of structure, acids, some minerals, very little aroma, very little fruit. Maybe no big surprise given these two producers.

nor, for that matter, do any of the other standard bullshitter terms ("liquid viagra" anyone?) apply.

unless you have gently mulled your lafarge basics into a vinous sous-vide over the past decade, they have gone from teh tediously closed down state to a relatively more appealing stage of lumpen adolescent awkwardness.

aka, they taste like coarse, slightly soupy wine that is recognizably burgundy. thassit an' thassall.

the best drinking lafarge bourgognes i had in the past year are CENSORED nb. while this list is not intended to be definitive or comprehensive, teh 02 was part of teh sample and was nowhere close to being written on teh slip in teh silver envelope. yet, at least.

teh fatsink asks me to ask you to save this make-it-up-as-you-go along-shit for teh downmarket boreds where teh post-pointy folks are all over same; here it is all rather irritating.

do you really want to start arguing with the plumbing?

Apogee's a perfectly good word, but I defer to your bulky wisdom. In any event, the 02s took a big leap forward between two-three years ago and last year, and, to my sad excuse for a palate, were delicious. I wouldn't expect anything from an 05 for a long time - unless, of course, they're stored in the attic.

I'll reserve 'liquid viagra' for the thread on your enchanting gift with the tongue that Shakespeare spake.
