Why did no one ever tell me I had to visit the New York Botanic Gardens?

After over half a century in the greater metropolitan area I only just visited last weekend. Beautiful gardens and the orchid show was spectacular. We may go back next month when the azaleas and lilacs are peaking.

Celebrated with a glass of Montepulciano on Arthur Avenue.

Great place and I too like the nearby proximity of Arthur Avenue for dining, although my experiences on Arthur Ave have been more unique and special in the sociological scenic sense than in the gastronomic sense.

our dinner was ordinary but enjoyable. The "Montepulciano" (only information available) was surprisingly enjoyable.
 
If you go back, besides Roberto's and his spinoffs on Arthur Ave (zero otto nove) which are pretty good - I'd throw a shout out for Neerob for Bengali, and Burkerija Dukajini for a quick Burek - both are pretty close to the other side of the park and easy diversions if you have a car. Burek place is pizza place like tho.

If you saw a guy on Sunday with a stroller filled with a screaming blond infant on paths clearly not meant for a stroller, and you thought to yourself "who's that jackass" - was nothing but a wine disorder quasi lurker.

The trees were great. The other nice botanical field trip to the Bronx is Wave Hill. That's even easier to get to if you live on the west side of Manhattan.

Indeed. We prefer Wave Hill and there are fewer traffic variables from where we live. But it depends what kind of experience you are in the mood for.
 
If you find yourself in Nassau County for god knows what reason - I'd also give a hearty recommendation to Planting Fields Arboretum - it's like a gigantic version of Wave Hill. Pair it with a side visit to The Japanese Stroll Garden around the corner.
 
There are very good reasons to find oneself in Nassau County. One of which being to visit the inestimably estimable Josh Raynolds.

I went to school a stone's throw from Planting Fields. It's a cool spot. I wonder if I still have my 11th grade photography project pictures taken there, maybe in a box in my parents' attic.

Coincidentally the salesgirl at the Garden Shop (we bought some orchids) also recommended visiting Wave Hill.

And while we're on the subject the 1993 Bertheau Chambolle Musigny is a delightful wine that paired beautifully with some Boeuf Bourguignon. Probably the last stew of the season, the weather is turning warmer tomorrow.

We were there on Saturday but I doubt I would have thought that in any event.

Thanks for the restaurant recommendations, we'll definitely be back at least once in the upcoming year as we're members now.

I visited the Brooklyn Botanic Garden most years (missed last year due to banging up my knee in late May). But I may shift my allegiance.
