speaking of violets, i had my last 1998 verset cornas recently. it was the best verest i've ever had and the thing that set it apart was the amazing floral component of the bouquet. yes, violets in spades, and maybe a little orange blossom and evening scented stock. usually the carnal and garrigue aspects of verset dominate but this one had all the flowers that syrah can muster. hats off to noel!
2 to 3 hours after opening it was losing the perfection it had had at opening, so i'd say unless you love wines past their prime it's time to indulge.

Hell yes. When I think how much I could sell my older CalCabs and Bdx for, it is a sore temptation, especially given how infrequently we drink them these days. I'm saving my '97 Turley Zins for my next trip out to visit you all, though!

At Beaugravière, 1 of the best wine lists of Rhone Valley. 3 out of 5 tables are having a half bt of Guigal CdR. 1 is having nothing. WTF?
Needless to say, being on my own has not prevented me of leading by example and ordering a bottle. 16% Chateauneuf. Ugh.
Using the remainder of the bottle to fuel my car. Must be weary of speed traps as they are anti flavor. #100MPG
