Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki

A slightly belated thank you to Tore and to David. (We had just been starting to come to the conclusion that Oslo and Helsinki were a step behind Stockholm and Copenhagen for interesting things to do.)

I can't believe that is almost 3 years since Jeff started this thread, but it seems that is the case. Can anyone share more or updated info re wine in Stockholm (stores, bars, restaurants, etc.)?

thanks much!

OsloI have been lurking on this bored for a good while and I now feel compelled to contribute with some useful tips on what to do in Oslo. The must see attractions include the Munch Museum, the museums at Bygdøy (Kon-Tiki and Polar museum), The National Gallery and The Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art are all great.

Visit the Vinmonopolet at Vika if you want to find some exciting wines.

Oslo's boroughs have a lot to offer in terms of ambience and value compared with the city centre.

Grunerløkka (Hipstertown) Schous Bryggeri (Brewpub - no food), Dr. Keipps (Wine bar), and Mathallen a food market which tries to emulate Mercat de La Boqueria. Trattoria Populare for good Italian and Trancher for dry aged meat.

Grønland (Hipster/international) Maaemo is probably Norways best restaurant and is comparable to Noma. It is hard to get a reservation but it is well worth the effort.

Oslo Vest (Posh side of town) Bagatelle is under new management and I recommend the Bistro and the gourmet restaurant, Alex Sushi (Great sushi), Palace Grill, and Cru which has a reasonably priced wine list.

Holmenkollen - Restaurant Grefsenkollen (Excellent view).

Bærum - Strand Restaurant

Aker Brygge has all the tourist traps but there are some good restaurants. Onda and Hanami are pricey but good. Solsiden great seafood.

Bislett & St. Hanshaugen - St. Lars, Smalhans and Tranen for unpretentious food with a Norwegian flare.

City Centre - Baltazhar for excellent Italian food, Fjord for great seafood, and Stattholdergården if you want the Michelin experience. Oro is under new management and it looks very promising.

Please revert to me if you have any questions.

Apologies to all for resurrecting this ancient thread. I will be in Oslo in late May 2016. I was planning to go to a couple of restaurants during the week that I'm there. Most of the time, I'm guessing I'll stock up at the Vinmonopolet and cook for our Norwegian hosts.

We plan to go to Solsiden, unless you have more recent intel on great seafood places. I'd love to go to Maaemo (dinner for 4 with wine pairing included is now about kr 14,000 - approx. $2000.) taking our hosts out to dinner, but I think it is out of our price range. Any other suggestions for great non-molecular places using all local ingredients with a WD-friendly wine list?

thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Mark, you should do the Vinmonopol shopping at the Aker Brygge flagship store (Current selection).

Solsiden is a great place for seafood and I'll second Jeff's Arakataka recommendation.

Maaemo has become prohibitively expensive, I would rather go to Fauna,
BA53 or Kontrast for a nice and modern take on local ingredients. You will find Disorderly-friendly choices on their wine lists.

Check out Territoriet wine bar for a thoughtful selection by the glass.
