Hipster Eau de Vie available at Astor Wines

Astor is now carrying some of the excellent Cazottes eau de vie. Biodynamic, practically hand made from start to finish. With thanks to Thor who introduced me to it last year.

I picked up a bottle so once I get it home from CWS any visitors should feel free to ask for a taste.

Which one did you buy?

The Prunelart.

Do you know who brings this into the US?

I was told but don't recall. I can check the bottle after I pick it up. Originally I was told Fifi was bringing it in but then someone else told me that wasn't accurate (though they'll be serving it at Ten Bells).

K&L has some more info on the distillates here.

Seems like Nicolas Palazzi is the importer (there's also a good interview with him on one of Levi's early podcasts).

If you keep it in CWS, you'll get even more visitors!

I'm not a huge eau de vie person, but do people like these better than the ones from that guy in Austria?

oh sure, and when was the last time I saw you there?

BTW - I had the Quince "sweet" wine last weekend and while it was very good with fantastic purity of flavor it wasn't compelling enough for me to buy more. And it didn't strike me as sweet.

Reisetbauer.

I have not had that, but I really liked the Swabian eau de vie fatboy brought to New York. There should be more like that.

The eau de vie was really good.

Joe/Jayson/Manuel - An opened bottle in the cage if any of you would like to give it a try. You can even give .sasha a taste if he's around.

Damn! I was just congratulating myself on my righteousness for not having stolen a tiny taste today in the cellar, seeing the bottle there and all. Temptation was large, but prayer sufficed to overcome it.

And having not read your post.

But I'll be back.

PM Spirits is the name of Palazzi's operation. Been sampling from a bottle of Cazottes Folle Noire sweet wine the past couple of days. That stuff is about as aromatically complex as it gets and would be amazing paired with something simple and mostly dark chocolate.

Palazzi also brings in a killer Pineau des Charentes under the label Paul Marie & Fils. Look for bottlings #6 and #7
