Tonight, we celebrated yet another of my birthdays with a meal of takeout Thai food and a few wines from the cellar. With fish cakes and spring rolls, we had the NV Francis Boulard 'Les Murgiers' Extra Brut which started out too toasty but eventually settled down to a more mannerly bubbly. Not as austere as a lot of extra Brut/non-dosé fizz, this wine had a very rounded mouthfeel and a fine mousse. With our main dishes of roast duck in red curry sauce and scallops in garlic sauce, we had a bottle of the 2008 Huet Vouvray Le Mont demi-sec which was golden yellow in the glass and quite viscous. The nose upon opening had a pronounced seaweed/iodine note to it, but with the food the acidity and quince fruit character came out and provided a lovely accompaniment.
