The 4th seems to bring out the celebration in those with a deep cellar.

We were in the wilds of Bennett Valley with a nice long table full of friends, a very generous host and a long range view of the fireworks from Santa Rosa. The heat had finally let up and the breeze was a delight.

It was, however, a night of excess, to include:
Imports: 2007 Chave Hermitage; 1997 Vogue, Musigny; 1995 Rousseau, Chambertin; 1976 Chat. Lafite
Domestic: (please forgive my not taking notes on the vintages, it was more fun not to) Marcassin, Chardonnay, Three Sisters; Peter Michael, Chardonnay, Cuvee Indigene; Aubert, Pinot Noir; Brewer & Clifton, Pinot Noir; Kistler, Pinot Noir, Cuvee Elizabeth; etc., etc.
So there was this embarrassment of riches.

But the two wines that I wanted to drink a lot more of were the 2011 Jemrose, Viognier, which was so crisp and elegant that I almost didn’t recognize the grape, and the 2009 Bjornstad Pinot Noir, Helenthal, which even though it was a touch oaky for me, it had beautiful, supple fruit.
I also enjoyed my own Rosé and Sauvignon Blanc but then, that’s to be expected.

Aspirin is my friend.
Best, Jim

Jim, Ample quantities of water should suffice.

A longtime importer from long ago, Tony LaBarba, advised me early on to drink an equal amount of water as wine.

Works like a charm!

Did drinking higher up the food chain change any of your Burgundy ennui? I'm not sure that 1997 or any Vogue would do it, unless Vogue is your thing, but Rousseau Chambertin is pretty decent.

Were any of these listed wines drinkable?
