It's out-of-the-way, and there can be a bit of a wait, but Outerlands in the Outer Sunset is worth a trip. Fantastic food, very good bread. Even lunch is worth a trip. No reservations, but Ocean Beach is a block away so put your name down, give them a contact number, and go for a stroll (but bring some layers).
I haven't been for dinner, and I sometimes drop by for lunch if I am passing through, but I wouldn't quite schlep all the way out there from downtown for what I've eaten at lunch.

Dagan has some good wines on their list.
Missing dinner would be a big mistake. The lines are for lunch, but should be for dinner.

...And just opened in downtown SF is Laurent Manrique's Aquitaine. No idea how good the food is there, but you have to admire a place with Floc de Gascogne and Fronton by the glass.
We had dinner at Aquitaine last week and it was excellent. Good confit and mussels, delicious fresh pea soup and cheesy "escouton" (polenta) with roasted tomatoes, extremely addictive seared calamari with lots of parsley, salt and smoked espelette pepper. Tasty Gaillac, fun wine list.

I ate at O Chame once years ago and it remains one of my bay area dining high points. Just loved it.

And right you were to love it; Ochame was probably our favorite Berkeley restaurant over the years. Sadly, they just closed. I think David and Hirome were just tired of the restaurant biz after such a long run, plus he's venturing into a new business, some kind of restaurant cooking equipment.
