Slaton Lipscomb
Remarkably fresh, pure nose of crushed red berries, flower petals, bit of pepper, smoked meats. Impressively light-bodied and delicate, even for the appellation, with fresh, vibrantly high acidity. My but does this dance on the tongue, as weightless of a wine as any I've experienced. Showing a little development, with sweetly red fruits, light brown spices and savory smoked meat, but still remarkably pure and vibrant, with fine, velvety-soft tannins that are nearly invisible. This is drinking wonderfully now, but is still perhaps a year or two from peak, probably more.

While not a powerhouse in terms of concentration, I find the delicacy and purity here riveting. This is easily the most captivating wine I've drank in days, weeks, even months, really.

Brzme, I know you post here from time to time. Props, brother.

Lee Short opened one of these for us not that long ago and it was very similar to what you describe. The style reminded me of a really good Burgundy, but made from Syrah.

The '06 version is also beautiful, with the silky structure, but slightly riper flavors.

My personal preference is for the Pergault VV, but it really hard to go wrong with any of them.

Pergault VV is the explosive device.

Maybe I should buy a new pair of jeans.
A long way to go before I can reach the Michel Rolland's look.

My feeling is that '04 and '06 are in the '01 style.

Thanks for the Burgundy stuff. It may be what I'm looking for after all.

It may take more than jeans to achieve that perfect combination of vacuous and haughty.

If the 1999 is anything to go by, I'm wish I'd bought waaaaay more 2004 and 2006.

Best,
