Patricia Green Sauvignon Blanc 2007

Patty Green Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Oregon- $20- This is my favorite SB from Patty to date. It makes me really excited for the 2007 Pinots that I am laying down. This is a high acid year. I wish I had the opportunity to taste blind with a line-up of Pouilly Fumes. I stayed away from her 2006 SB, because it reminded me of Monterey SB, but the 2007 is sharp. There is focused minerality, and the fruit is more like wallpaper. After the third day of being open, the fruit has come more to the front, with pink grapefruit, and unripe guava flavors. I like it so much now, I'm not afraid to pop and drink (a lot of) it.

I think 07 is going to be a very good year for OR whites, provided you like freshness and precision. The Pinots Blanc and Gris from St. Innocent are also very nice.

Anyone know where the old vines are for the white varieties in Oregon?

If you like riesling, Coeur de Terre Riesling 2006 is 30+ years. Last year contracted to those vines though. High acid, hints of petrol... beautiful actually.

Carabella has some old vine pinot gris. Montinore does too; very affordable and surprisingly good.

I always like J Christopher's whites. I'm not sure about vine age.

I have always thought that Domaine Serene's Chardonnays were good. Expensive though.

DePonte Cellars makes a Melon that is very good as well. I thin the vines have some years on them. Panther Creek used to contract out the vines, but Isabella at DePonte has done a better job with the same grapes, IMO.

Interesting. Do you know if this is the same vineyard Belle Pente sources from? Brian mentioned an old vineyard that they weren't going to have for much longer. That riesling is very nice, incidentally. I'll have to seek this one out. Hadn't heard of Coeur de Terre.

I'm pretty sure it is, but Scott at Coeur de Terre said this is that last vintage he will have access to it. They are in the McMinnville AVA, in the middle of nowhere. Check out their pinot noirs too. He doesn't over extract. Not too much oak. Pretty cool stuff, but it seems very hot where he is, so his best years may end up being "off" vintages. he is also trying to grow syrah in Willamette Valley. Interesting indeed.

I always like J Christopher's whites.. I agree wholeheartedly

I have always thought that Domaine Serene's Chardonnays were good...Domaine Alfred is an unoaked (or basically so) wonderfully fresh good early drinking Chardonnay
